POSITION TITLE:               Product Support Engineer

PAY GRADE:                      D (Junior) or E (Senior)

DEPARTMENT:                  Product Support Engineering (500)

REPORTS TO:                     Engineering Manager



  • Assumes responsibility for the interchangeability, interoperability, and integrity of the project weapon system
  • Liaise with DND technical authority / customer on all technical matters
  • Acts as the focal point of professional technical expertise for weapon systems and engineering
  • Provides training to military and company personnel
  • Participate in the review solicitation from customers and prepare comprehensive responses that include both technical and resource requirements;
  • Assist in material requirement planning, new source selection, and expedition of materials to meet program commitments and ensure compliance with applicable laws, regulations, and contract requirements;
  • Preparing Statements of Work for suppliers and subcontracts; placement and monitoring for compliance;
  • Lead R&D project development as assigned, while working with other PSE team members to ensure the best results
  • Provide R&D Project status updates to Senior Management, and internal stakeholders;
  • Proactively identify and resolve unique and novel challenges and potential delays;

Junior and Senior:

  • Maintains knowledge of engineering and technological advances of weapon systems
  • Develops maintenance and support concepts and requirements for weapons and ancillary equipment
  • Recommends, develops and implements modifications to a weapon system
  • Liaise with contracts regarding project scheduling and finances
  • Estimates costs and monitors progress of projects
  • Interfaces with technologists, technicians, draftsmen and sub-contractors on projects
  • Interfaces with engineering test group in defining test requirements and evaluating test results
  • Provides technical advice to the repair and overhaul and manufacturing departments
  • Prepares repair and overhaul procedures, specifications and standards
  • Provides technical support to the technical writing group
  • Designs test fixtures and simulators
  • Updates engineering drawings to latest standards
  • Liaises with manufacturing to improve machining and gauging of parts with respect to the engineering drawing



  • Obtain Enhanced Security Clearance from the Government of Canada
  • Maintenance of secure and confidential company information
  • Adherence to Colt Canada Corporation’s policies and procedures




  • Professional engineer
  • Expert with CAN3-B76.2-83, ANSI Y14.5-73 and ISO standards
  • Proven design abilities
  • Expert with small arms engineering
  • Qualified to act as Senior Project Leader
  • Extremely cognizant of military equipment, terminology, testing, ballistics as well as gauge design and repair and overhaul
  • Minimum 6 years of specialization of military weapons engineering
  • Bachelor of Science Degree in Engineering


  • Eligible for APEO registration
  • Familiar with CAN3-B-78-2-83, ANSI Y14.5-73 and ISO standards
  • Minimum 2 years of engineering experience
  • APEO membership is desirable
  • Bachelor of Science Degree in Engineering
  • Experience with SolidWorks and PDM


  • Internal – All departments
  • External – Vendors/suppliers, current and potential customers


  • Office environment – extended periods of sitting, keyboarding – occasional lifting of equipment and kit up to approximately 50lbs
  • Manufacturing, assembly, range and lab areas – PPE required
  • Domestic and international travel to trade shows and customer locations required (< 10%)
  • This role would require the individual be qualified to meet the industrial security level of NATO Secret.
