Colt Canada

POSITION TITLE:             Buyer

WAGE RANGE:                Starting at $60,000 annually, Determined based on experience

DEPARTMENT:                310 – Purchasing

REPORTS TO:                  Purchasing Manager

SHIFT AVAILABLE:          37.5 hours/week


  • Investigates and develops sources of supply, whether for new scope or new Suppliers
  • Develops and maintains supplier relationships
  • Owns the relationship of key Supplier / Commodity pairs
  • Initiates, negotiates, and maintains Supplier Long Term Agreements and Contracts
  • Lead for Supplier Performance Evaluation and Management
  • Responsible for ongoing cost reduction (total cost of acquisition) goals
  • Issues and analyses RFQs, RFI’s, RFP’s
  • Evaluates the best source and negotiates terms and conditions of orders in accordance with Colt Canada policies, procedures, and related regulations
  • Issues and maintains purchase orders
  • Follow-up with vendors, suppliers, and internal Colt Canada customers, resolving outstanding issues as required
  • Other tasks and duties as assigned by department manager or designate



  • Obtain Enhanced Security Clearance from the Government of Canada
  • Maintenance of secure and confidential company information
  • Adherence to Colt Canada Corporation’s policies and procedures
  • Ensures confidentiality of company information
  • Stays up-to-date on and adheres to all ISO9001 policies and procedures
  • Meet service standards and expectations for internal and external customers


  • Post-secondary Degree or Diploma in Engineering Technology or Business, or equivalent in work experience
  • SCMP certification an asset
  • Willingness to update training and education as needed
  • Minimum 5 years Supply Chain experience in a manufacturing environment
  • Knowledge of manufacturing methods and procedures, preferably in metals and complex machining
  • Able to interpret engineering designs
  • Proven ability to negotiate while maintaining key relationships
  • Able to work independently to solve problems
  • Ability to understand and analyze complex documents
  • Excellent computer skills including experience with ERP (Epicor preferred) and MS Office
  • Able to communicate professionally with internal and external customers at all levels of an organization.
  • Flexible and able to adapt to changing priorities
  • Past experience working with the regulation of controlled goods is an asset
  • RPAL Licensing – is an asset, ability to obtain RPAL is required
